I picked this up as part of my continuation of this series.
“The Girl from the Other Side, Vol. 6” continues to follow Shiva and Teacher as they try to navigate their world and understand more about this curse. In this volume, Teacher and Shiva find themselves far from home as they try to put some distance between themselves and the soldiers that are trying to hunt Shiva. Teacher is also trying to desperately understand what happened to him and why Shiva does not seemed to be affected by the curse in the same way.
I am still very much enjoying this series, but this volume was not my favorite. It felt like the plot was a little too drawn out, and I am ready to have some answers, or at least have the characters divulge a little bit more.
I really do love Shiva’s and Teacher’s relationship and dynamic. Shiva is still very much a young girl, and even in the face of extreme challenges, she is playful at heart. I think her inclination towards the whimsical helps to keep Teacher grounded, and enjoying life. Teacher cares so much about Shiva, and I really love seeing that.
In this volume we got to learn more about Teacher’s life before the curse, and I am so excited to continue to learn more. I feel like his story is going to be linked with Shiva’s in a more profound way, and I cannot wait to see it unfold.
I am very excited to pick up the next volume!

- I'm so excited to finally continue this Manga series! It has been two years since I read the last volume, as my library didn't have more and I never saw them on sale anywhere. I almost forgot how haunting and dark the story is!
- Volume 6 follows Teacher and Shiva as they seek out a new home where they might be safe from prosecution as others hope to use the girl for their own plans. I still love their familial relationship and how Teacher tries to be a caretaker as best as he can 🥺 Shiva's just a young girl and still grieving her Auntie, though she's also very resilient and full of life.
- I'm also interested to learn more about the world, we get more glimpses as the series goes on! There's something special about Shiva's soul, but this volume also focuses on Teacher, the life he can't remember and how he might be different as well.
It was interesting to find out that there are TWO types of Outsiders. The ones that are cursed humans and the 'natural' ones born from the Mother. It seems like Teacher might be one of the latter, even though he insists that he used to be human. Since cursed Outsiders have a short lifespan (and turn into trees), it seems like Teacher has survived way longer ... but we'll see 👀

I’m somewhat torn. Because this one was cute, I loved seeing Teacher and Shiva playing in the snow and being adorable. But given the author’s pedo stories in that one book is hard for me to enjoy moments like that in this series… :/ If I hadn’t learned about that this volume would’ve probably been the first 5⭐️ in the series for me. I just don’t feel like I can rate it that highly though when it kind of just gives me the ick a bit now.
The world building was finally explained a bit better, but it’s still kinda vague. Also didn’t we already know Teacher was once human? It felt like it was supposed to be a reveal but I swear he already told Shiva that in the first or second volume.
