Fun, light-hearted, fairly steamy retelling of the Hades/Persephone myth.

A caveat: I don’t like novellas. I try to stay away from them as much as possible, especially in erotic romances. I’ve found that most novellas in that genre lack substance and turn into 100 pages of porn without plot. So when I won this book in a giveaway, I was a little apprehensive. I loved Rai’s [b:Glutton For Pleasure|6619109|Glutton For Pleasure|Alisha Rai|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51CAaZYfvJL._SL75_.jpg|6813250] but was she talented enough to make me do backflips over a short story? The answer is yes. Hells yes with bells on.

Hot as Hades starts with a steamy bang and only gets steamier. Both Hades and Persephone dislike each other at first. To Persephone, Hades is some giant, arrogant asshat who refuses to do as she asks. But man, is he sexy! To Hades, Persephone is very beautiful intruder in his kingdom. Why is she there? What does she want? Definitely not to enjoy his company since everyone who comes across the badass ruler of the Underworld has ulterior motives. One of my favorite things about this novella was watching Hades and Persephone come to turns with their feelings for each other. Never has anyone cared for Hades or Persephone, instead of what they could do for that person. They find exactly what they need and never dared to hope in each others arms. Usually the smut happens too quick for me in novellas but Rai did a great job of creating the illusion that Hades and Persephone knew each-and developed a relationship with each other-for longer than the page count suggests.

If you’re looking for a smutty retelling on the mythology of Persephone and Hades, this is the book for you. Not only does it include the sexy God of the Underworld and the feisty daughter of Demeter, but there’s a hilarious three-headed dog thrown in too. And the scorching sex scenes you’ll find are a given. Rai could wax poetic about pinky toes and I’d be like, oh yeah, give me some of that! Reading this book was a great way to spend my afternoon.

Wow, now that was an interesting take on the Hades/Persephone story! I enjoyed every bit of it, and for once, I didn't mind this being a PWP story. It's a novella after all, and short formats can't be but snapshots. I'm not even sure I'd like to read a full-length novel because this? This is the perfect, delicious, smooth, sweet ice cream serving you take to bed with you, licking the spoon after each scoop, knowing you shouldn't but ah what the heck.

The dialogues are fun to read, and I don't mind the modern language at all. I mean, hey, they're gods and gods are immortal, right? So how do we know in which time this story is set? Persephone has lived most of her life amongst humans, and Hades has new souls coming in each day, so why shouldn't they adapt their speech pattern to modern times? I liked it because it fits the situation they find themselves in.

Oh, and Cerberus? Brilliant! Throw a stick? I will never be able to look at paintings of Cerberus again without thinking of Bob, Middle and Right!

The sex scenes? Ladies. Seriously. Do not read this in public. Put a towel on your seat and have a spare set of underwear ready, you will need both. Also, make sure you vibrator's batteries are fresh. Trust me.

I hadn't thought Greek gods would make good protags in an erotic romance, in fact, I hardly ever think about them at all - lack of interest in Greek mythology. Was I ever wrong. I really need to pay closer attention to that particular niche. And that version of Hades? Anytime. Like, ANYTIME.
