If a black monk would seek me out and tell me I'm God's favourite little princess I would simply believe him. R.I.P to Kovrin but I'm different

This just became my bedside table book. I can re-read this book any time and fall in love with it like the first time.

The psychological insight moments were very good but I did not enjoy the narrative in either of the stories. Each story gave me the sense that 50+ more pages each and they would have been significantly better rather than small vignettes in an already short stories.

I think this is only the second work I've read by Anton Chekhov and sadly I wasn't amazed by this either. He's was a good writer, I can see that but I haven't yet found one that worked for me
