"Ducks Away!" bears a lot of similarities to "Duck Skates," another picture book that I have reviewed. Even down to the five ducks and dealing with math in a subtle way. Yet I like this one a lot better.
It is not because of the story. And it isn't due to the illustrations. AND both books had rhyming. Instead, this book dealt a lot with opposites (down/up, forward/backward.) It also has words like "tumbled, peaked, toppled". You could use those words and act out the book as an extension activity. (No I didn't do that in storytime; the idea just came to me now!)

This is a great book for introducing/reinforcing early math skills for preschoolers. Perfect for storytime.

Re-read
The youngest member of the household asked us to read this today because of our love of fluffy baby ducks.
This is picture book written in way that young readers can predict exactly what will happen and then be rewarded on the next page for their correct guess. The art has a simple style with bright colour and effective use of white space.
The dramatics of the mother duck is what really sold this one to me, and the young audience was giggling throughout. Fun read.

March 2018 - a fun, bright counting story for younger kids. I think Ben is past the sweet spot for this one, but it would be great for toddlers and kids just learning to count.

A very cute counting book with ducks. Counts to five in different ways and would make a good math lesson for kindergarten.
