Simply something I revisit as the spirit strikes, silly to mark as “currently reading.”

Words, at least my own, cannot do Borges justice. I'll simply say that the contents of this book rank among the best fiction, short or otherwise, I have read.

A whole load of dreary rubbish.

To be fair, there are a few stories that are fairly interesting. But the vast majority of them are so boring, it is a struggle to stay awake long enough to finish them.

Maybe, it's the translation or maybe this is just not my type of book, but all the stories feel like they were written as part of some sort of writing exercise: all very complicated and sophisticated, but utterly boring to read. It is like they were written to showcase his prowess as a writer to other writers, but never to be enjoyable to read.

There seem to be a lot of people who love Borges' writing. I am not one of them.

I liked the idea though the execution was a little off. Perhaps something got lost in translation from Spanish.
