I really enjoy books that theme centers on quilts and so since I don’t usually read books that are set in Hawaii I thought I’d go for it. I’ve also never read books by Lisa Carter so this was my first experience reading something by this author. I have to admit, I found it very hard to get into this book – very hard and it took me 4 days to read when normally this type of book only takes me one day or at most a day and a half. I couldn’t find myself relating to Laney at all – who was given up by her Hawaiian mom and comes back to the island after finding out more about the beautiful quilt she was wrapped in. She seemed quite spoiled to me, and she was quick to jump to conclusions about everyone around her and her quickly falling in love with Kai, well let’s just say it didn’t sit well with me.

That being said, I enjoyed the theme of the book, which was about forgiveness, love, family and ultimately restoration – not just with a birth family but also with Christ. These are themes that I can totally get into and there were plenty of them in this book – in fact there was a bit too much love when it comes to Laney and Kai (there were moments of physical touching and kissing – but never all the way). Given that I don’t read books set in Hawaii and this is my first it was an interesting read but not one that I would have picked up if it weren’t for reviewing. Even when I was in the U.S. Navy and was almost sent to Hawaii I dreaded it, I don’t enjoy heat, humidity or large bugs – but another plus for the book is I could picture the beautiful scenery and almost smell the ocean as the family and friends of Laney have a luau.

**I was given a copy of this book from Litfuse Publicity in exchange for posting my opinion, no other compensation was given.
