I love Junji Ito, and I enjoyed No Longer Human when I read it in prose. I had high expectations for this work, and it lived up to all of them. There are definitely changes to the plot from the original book, but these were choices that worked with the plot and were well-executed. Ito's artistic style fits perfectly the graphic or horrifying elements of the story, and he gets to show just how good of a graphic artist he is, especially at showing facial nuance. This adaptation is filled with a type of surrealism which wasn't emphasized as much in the book, but suits it perfectly.

( this is coming from a person who didn’t read no longer human by Osamu Duzai)

This book tackles a lot of disturbing and uncomfortable themes that I want to make aware of. I personally did not enjoy reading or thinking about some of these themes in which Ito covers, but I do appreciate his unique style in Manga.
This is my first manga book and I will say the pictures were indeed engaging, I just wasn’t comfortable in reflecting on the ideas being shared. I will say, this book brought a new perspective on how I pick books around the horror and melancholic genre ( if melancholic is a sub genre). I now know that I have triggers in certain ideas that this book made aware of.

No longer human explores some incredibly dark and disturbing subjects, I find that Junkies Ito’s equally dark and disturbing art style complements this really well. The visualisation of this adaptation is more than I could’ve ever imagined, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the artwork. It is certainly not for everyone, it was a painful read (in a positive way), definitely a story would revisit

Yozo Oba was a scum on this earth. He fooled with a lot of people which led to those people taking their lives. This man was hollow from the inside out. He grossed me out with his behavior towards women. He used all of them for his own gains. In the end, he got what he deserved. An empty hollow life like himself.

An impactful story that possibly masks a memoir-like suicidal note, credit to the original author for that. Very curious to also read both the actual book and other graphic adaptations of this work that sadly describes a very tragic life story. Junji Ito's style also contributes in a suitable way to the disturbing plot.
