This was a very frustrating book - one that I felt was all over the place. The story itself was entertaining and engrossing, but it's like the author couldn't decide what kind of book he wanted to write. There would be long sections describing religion that felt very out of place, as well as a love story that felt forced. Also, this story does not wrap up - it is very much the first of a series and I felt very unsatisfied at the end. Also, the main character just REALLY got on my nerves, but that's more of a personal thing!

It's a decent political thriller, but I don't recommend it for those who hate cliff-hanger endings as this one has a major one. I am still deciding if I will make an effort to read the sequel. However, the book is based in current events surrounding the Middle East and the various terror groups, and I found the book informative as well as entertaining.

This book, like so many Rosenberg writes, could literally read off of today's headlines, at least on non mainstream media outlets. Rosenberg brings to life real characters placed in the theater of the current threat of ISIS, and creates a novel that is nail-biting and a real page turner, for me at least. The way this novel fits in with current world events and U.S. interactions with the world by our current "administration" is extremely well thought out and written. The protagonist, a third generation reporter with a high-profile media outlet, is allowed inside contact with the most dangerous people on the planet, and in the process learns things that will threaten Israel, Jordan, and our current administration all trying to help things with a massive peace treaty event. As expected, things go south quickly, with the reporter fighting for his life, his friends life, his country's reputation, and the current president's life as well. This is a must read for people who really want to know the truth concerning current events and the U.S./World as it truly is today. Highly recommended....

I loved the suspense in this book -- there was constant action, constant intrigue in foreign policy, and so much of it mirrored what's actually happening in the world. Though ISIS has taken a different road in reality than when Rosenberg was writing this book a year ago, his vision feels very true-to-life. I loved that amidst the fictional characters he placed the actual King of Jordan, Abdullah II, and through him taught a lot about the political importance of Jordan in the Middle Eastern balance. The other characters were well-written, even though the American president comes off looking like a naive coward.
Rosenberg's books are published by Tyndale house, which automatically identifies them as Christian. Some of his titles have felt overly preachy, and some are a bit too focused on end-days prophecies for my tastes, but this one had a great balance of modern war and politics and spiritual soul-searching.
And talk about a cliff-hanger! I will be reading the next book in this series shortly!

I seriously need more stars for this. I loved the suspense and action of this book. I can't wait to read the next one. I placed the hold for this from my library and now I'm going to buy the books so I can reread it!

Wow! That was some finish to the first book in his new series. Once again, Joel C. Rosenberg writes a provides us a novel that is full of timely and accurate information in regards to the geopolitical climate of the Middle East and USA, and he does it in this fast-paced and riveting story. I'm ready for the next installment. It is critical that we as U.S. citizens understand the religion-based politics that guide the actions of all those in the Middle East so that we understand how our own decision as individuals and as a country effect not only our country, but the world. Mr. Rosenberg does a great job educating us on this subject in his book.
