Insightful, I really likes his examples and clear way of explaining his advice. I think this book is really helpful in explaining why habits stick and offers different approaches to start creating good habits. Overall easy read and I think is practical without being too preachy

Maybe I am just not at a good place in 2020 for ways to make myself better, but this really geared toward people who have not just the desire to change habits, but the capacity. It also doesn't take into account social factors and systems stacked against people. This mentality of "everything you want to change about your life is within your power" is really dangerous bc it's a cousin of the bootstraps ideology and a slippery slope to disregarding systems that harm us.

Also, losing weight, the habit everyone is obsessed with in these kind of books, isn't just a matter of building healthy habits or thinking of your identity as a "healthy person". Please do your research and quit conflating health with weight loss. The two aren't the same thing. That is literal science.

Names, specifies, and elaborates on a lot of little things you already know are true, but maybe never thought about in a concrete way. I've picked up on and started doing a lot of this over the past several years, bit by bit, as I've aimed to improve my general approach to life. Especially during pre-vaccine pandemic the effect of habits (as a comfort or as a drag downwards, as a way to build on hope or a way to spiral further) became especially stark to me -- life inside the quarantined home became disturbingly regular, which made every tiny habit have an outsized effect. Anyway, this book is fantastic at laying out approachable actionable ways to change yourself & your life atom by atom. It manages to have enough content to feel like it was worth a book, without becoming too redundant or feeling like it was padded out with filler, which I really appreciated. Tells you what you need to know and doesn't overstay its welcome. A good combo of anecdotes for illustration, explanations of the whys and wherefores, and step by step advice.
