I'm conflicted about this book. It felt both like I had to trudge through it and also like I flew through it at the same time. The pacing was a bit strange but I found myself weirdly rooting for the strange pairing. I kind of wish it ended differently, since it felt like she never really gave into her impulses, and that's what I was waiting for. This is definitely not Romantasy, FYI, it's a suspenseful story about dealing with the Fair Folk.

I had such high hopes for this book but I DREAD picking it up. I thought it just had a slow start but 100 + pages in and nothing is happening and is very slow going. I am very disappointed because I really wanted to like this book.

Well that was NOT a romantasy but it was a damn good story. Really appreciate an author using a now well-established genre and disrupting it. Loved the relations between the human and the Fae, how dark and twisted they would actually be, that was represented really well. Some of the writing is a bit juvenile, I think it took Harwood a bit of time to find their writing voice in the narrative, but it’s charming, fun, adventurous, frightening, and even a bit moving (no seriously I unexpectedly teared up multiple times). Not what I was expecting but I’m glad I read it.

This struggled to capture me.
I'm not usually a fan of a Fae and mortal bargain story to begin with, so this was already not going to be a favourite from the start.
This started slow and didn't do a lot of character building for me. It just seemed to be rather mundane. Moira Jean is either talking with 'The Dreamer' and bargaining or you're just following her around doing chores.
Then the end packs all the action with no real answers to things.
