I think towards the end I expected a little bit more but this brief novel I believe accomplished what it set out to do.

Grieving two of the people you care about most before they even go and reconciling your mixed feelings about what they mean to you is as real as it gets when it comes to loss and mourning.

I am once again deeply pleased with Broder’s writing. She manages to stay so true to the human experience and she doesn’t shy away from exploring thoughts that might be a little weird or unusual, the part some people leave unsaid or unexamined.

The reality of almost facing death and still thinking about how others are dying is probably what moved me the most about this book.

This characters within this story feel so incredibly human with their delightful eccentricities. The examination of loss and grief (of both a partner and a parent) was compelling -- I feel like this one is going to stick with me for awhile.
