i actually liked this better than A Dark is Rising. I had a hard time getting through that book and this one flowed more easily
bickie's review against another edition
Another battle in the war between Light and Dark, this time featuring both Will Stanton and the Drew children. The first book seemed good for a younger audience than the second; this one seems about in the middle. I liked Jane's empathy as the pivotal force in this battle. The different scenes were memorable (far beneath the sea, Greenwitch's actions while incarnated, the caravan), but it was hard to understand how they fit in seamlessly with what went before. Some is explained by the fact that the Dark has sent a kind of apprentice-type to do the work this time, and he's not as formidable of an enemy. There are a few unfortunate references to "natives" including a few from Mrs. Stanton (Will's American aunt) regarding American indigenous peoples.
