okay okay. it was a *fun* fast read for in between books. now that i know more authors coho isn’t on my top list anymore, but I can still see why she has been before. the book is sad, but hopeful. did touch my feelings (might’ve not helped that it’s 1:30AM that I finished it) anyway I ugly cried at the end and def a recommendation for if you need a fast-paced/ easy-to-read book :)

Tl;dr I think the man was supposed to be likeable, he just wasn't. He needed therapy but depended on the women around him to provide it. He felt a little dangerous. If you've ever been in an emotionally abusive relationship, don't read this. Sex scenes were good though.

It was okay. The story was sad and it definitely kept my attention. I'm just tired of the "women will fix men" storyline.

The book starts out in Tate's point of view and it seems like she's going to be the main character. Then it switches to shorter chapter that are Miles' pov. But miles was very clearly the main character. He's a troubled guy, a successful pilot at the ripe age of 24.. he's even promoted to captian during the story.

Meanwhile we barely learn anything about Tate. That's fine, it's just not my cup of tea to have (who I perceive should be) the main character be so 2 dimensional while the love interest's character is so fleshed out.

Also, they're 22 and 24 and established in their careers which feels unrelatable.

SpoilerAnyway, the entire time, Tate is hoping Miles falls in love with her and he's emotionally unavailable and has been for 6 years. You don't find out why until nearly the end, when you find out he'd had a child with his high school sweetheart, got in a car accident while Miles is driving them home from the hospital, the newborn dies, and the girlfriend leaves.

So Miles cuts himself off from love and happiness but of course, things change when he meets Tate.

Honestly, he treats Tate pretty terribly, even if it was just a hookup situation. He does things that scare her and you kind of assume he doesn't realize he's doing them, until the end when you get his present day POV and you realize he's not clueless. He can read her, he just doesn't care. He doesn't mind intentionally being mean or intimidating to her.

Spoilerso in the end, he thanks Tate for "waiting for him." Which is valid for her and was her choice to wait for him. I'm just tired of that storyline if "if you wait long enough, you can fix him!" And he also had to find the high school sweetheart, shows up at her house so she can console him. He literally just shows up in her life in an entirely new state, not caring what that would do to her or her family. She didn't tell him where she was, he found her and just inserted himself so she could give him free therapy. It was cringe.

I thought this book was better than the ones I have read recently. I liked the mix of character personalities and the switch from past to present as you learn more about Miles’ past. This book kind of reminded me of “It Ends with Us” in a way. The cheesy inside jokes between the two characters, and the sad side-plot. I definitely predicted what happened to Miles’ but I liked the ending. It was cheesy, but still was good enough to hold my attention and make me finish 200 pages in a day. Not 5 stars, but still good.

The book wasn't good, there was bearly any plot and the relationship between Tate and Miles is just toxic.
The chapters in Miles POV were really hard to read for me because the writing was cringe and
Spoiler I wasn't looking for a step-sibling romance,
if I'd searched for that I would've gone to Wattpad.
Also
Spoiler don't talk about your newborns balls, wtf
