Highly enjoyable! Although there are parts of this book that were saucier than anticipated, this doesn't come out of nowhere as the investigation leads to a Victorian version of an underground sex club. The mystery is engaging, but what really kept my attention was the further development of Veronica and Stoker's characters as well as their working and personal relationship. I expected there would be little to nothing in the way of romantic developments, so was very surprised by a few third act events that teased out interesting new information as well as potential future storylines to be explored.

I love this series, more than Lady Julia (Gasp!). I like the sassy Veronica a bit better and her chemistry with Stoker. Even bigger shocker, I liked book two better than book one. I enjoyed the historical part of the novel as well as the science knowledge of Veronica and Stoker. The mystery in this book seems more of an add on to the story to give it a purpose. I don't know if this is just me, but I also like the campy Victorian drama (think old time radio music). I have seen mixed reviews for this book and series, but I really enjoyed it and am waiting (un)patiently for the third.

This was an excellent follow-up to the first book. I think that despite it covering less ground and having a bit less adventure, I actually liked this one more. I loved seeing the bond between Veronica and Stoker. Despite their bickering and sexual tension, they make a great investigative team and have a lot of deep trust and respect for each other, which is lovely to see.
Graphic: Death, Violence, and Murder
Moderate: Alcohol and Drug use
Minor: Pregnancy, Sexual content, and Miscarriage

DNF at 60 pages. Just couldn't get into this one. I don't usually read mysteries at all, but I really enjoyed the characters and dialogue in the first one, so I was thinking this series might be an exception, but from the beginning of this one, it seems to be falling into the same traps mysteries generally do — too many coincidences in the setup, and not enough reason why the main character has to be the one to get involved. I get that these things are sort of par for the course in mystery series, so if you're a mystery fan, you'll probably enjoy this a lot more than me; it's just not my cup of tea.

I’m just out on this series. Good but not good enough to invest the time in.

I loved this one but not as much as the first. The mystery was slow in unraveling and there was a lot of down time. But I still love these characters and their adventures.

3.5 stars.
Definitely better than the first but again the mystery wasn’t, well ... mysterious . It wasn’t shocking or thought provoking. Kind of bland if you ask me.
Again I did enjoy both the characters and I enjoyed their bickering. They have a certain chemistry and it is starting to build.
I’m excited to continue the series so fingers-crosses it gets better.

Loved loved loved. It’s hard to give a review without giving anything away so let’s just say I really love that we got to learn more about Stoker and his family/background in this one. I feel like it just strengthened our connection as readers but also Veronica and his connection as well. I loved the mystery and my HEART skipped a beat at the end! Cannot wait to continue in this series!
