Cute and slightly offensive, but not exactly literature. Average entertainment, but will make you smile time to time.

My library loan expired before I finished. I know enough to understand the author's writing style. With a long list of books to sample, I won't check it out to finish, but I liked the bit that I read.

It was a little funny besides the comments on people's weight. That wasn't needed.

Doggerel, yes, but doggerel in the service of democracy and justice.

This had its funny moments, though I don't know why I read it. Too soon. Looking to escape this man still...not finding some of the horrors all that funny really. Appreciate his effort with humor as a coping mechanism though.

Okay, this was absolutely gold. John Lithgow is incredible at everything he does.

Highly highly recommend this, definitely get your hands on the audiobook if you can so you can hear John read it, It’s a full performance.

I listened during a long drive and was laughing in my car like a crazy person.

I'm not much of a poet so I can't offer much in the way of criticisms for the poetry, other than the fact that they had a jaunty rhythm, a catchy rhyme scheme, and the vocabulary was excellent. My love of John Lithgow is hardly a secretly, and I am glad to see all his wit and intelligence in display in this book.

The poems themselves help put some of Trump's crimes in a more lighthearted light, while never shying away from just how awful all of it really is - some of the poems even go so far as to remind us that this shit is serious and that it absolutely should not be taken lightly, even if it's being told in the form of jaunty poetry (Their shared despotism/And shared barbarism/Are an ominous sign of our times./They're perfect for doggerel/On themes demagogurel,/Though hardly for lighthearted rhymes.)

Overall, an excellent election day read.

Democracy's frail but our spirit is firm:
Restrict Trumpty Dumpty to only one term.

This book is hilarious and well done... until you remember that so many horrible things have happened under 45. Lithgow captures these absurd people with humor and wit in a way that makes even the most horrible scandals into fun poems.

I found myself caught in a cycle of reading, laughing, and then mulling over the reality of each poem that quickly turned to a deep sadness in my chest. Which is to say that Dumpty is a book for the age we are in.

Quick impressions: Overall, I liked the book, but it is a book to read once and move on. Your mileage may vary depending on your sense of humor (or lack of humor) and on your feel for the former president. On a side note, I heard that Lithgow reads the audio version, and in this case that may be the better reading option.
