Being very fast paced and written in rather easy language you can easily read this book within hours. It’s setting brings a very cosy vibe to it, making it especially enjoyable during winter months. Unfortunately i expected more of the book. I have to say that I found the characters under developed, especially Meeks, Pitts and Cameron, all of whom I almost know nothing about. Todd and Neil have to be my favorites, they also undergo the most character development.
Knox sexually aussaults Chris, which i found very disturbing and hard to read. Unfortunatley this was not discussed in the book but rather down played.
In general i found Knox’s character very annoying and overstepping boundaries.
When it comes to the plot, the book was very fast paced and I did not see the ending coming.
Especially Neils dead shocked me.
Things however happened very apruptly. I understand the drama that this caused but again I felt like the book was lacking in plot development and background information. A thing that I liked and hated at the same time was that it read like a drama or a screenplay where sentences are short and rather world building and descriptive than dialogue.
The message to go your own way was delivered perfectly and made me enjoy the book in the end.

I adore this story and I think I'll like the movie even more when I get to watching it. This is mostly because it suits everything (almost everything) I search for in a story more so than because it's without flaws.

You'll like this story if you like: short stories that do a phenomenal job at providing a character driven narrative with unique, well-rounded characters; breaking the mold in a strict academic setting; whimsical rolemodels; queer themes (it does not have explicitly queer characters though); an ending that fits thematically and will rip your heart out.

Unfortunately, the story does include some derogatory stuff towards native Americans. Women are also objectified (because apparently the theme of self-determination only extends to one of the sexes)... Don't pick up this book if this affects your reading experience.

I don't know what I expected from this book but it delivered nothing. There were mostly dialogues, dialogues and dialogues. I would have preferred some more description. The story was rushed.
If you ask me to differentiate between characters, I would not be able to do it. All I knew about them was that they were part of the dead poets society, Neil liked acting etc. I didn't connect with the bonding of Mr. Keatings and the boys. It lacked emotions. I did like the last chapter though. It could have been impactful if the characters were fleshed out.
I'll probably watch the movie.
