An absolutely harrowing and hugely important piece of literature. Possibly the saddest book I have ever read.

Morrison’s words are pure poetry. The issues she discusses in this novel are still relevant today. Not just horrifying, but horrifyingly true.

Everyone should read this book.

A heartbreaking story of generational trauma, racial self-loathing, and the destruction of societal beauty standards. Read this one quickly but will be thinking about it for a while. A hard read but an important one.

It is so hard to describe and review this book because it is more than just a story about a little girl facing racism in America, it is about girlhood as a whole experience, poverty, inherited misogyny, and the accepting of one’s inevitable fate.

Such a sad book. Great writing and concept. Especially liked the
hallucination / imaginary friend bit at the end
. But timeline and perspective were a bit confusing.
