This was a very quick read! But it wasn't too exciting for me.

Well, I quite enjoyed that, but I'm really starting to wonder what people think they're doing when they put her on film. The movies were entertaining, and I've always enjoyed 'Sherlock', but they don't even come close to doing her justice (except for maybe the one that was actually an adaptation of this book). They always seem to put some sort of romantic twist to it, or make her into something much more sinister, but that's not the impression I got. He admires her, for sure, and maybe there are some deeper feelings there, but on her part, certainly not. She's clever, and kind, too, I felt. To try and make her into anything else is ridiculous.

Anyway . . . rant over.

first holmes short story up! really enjoyed this introduction to irene adler, and how she became “the woman” to sherlock. was great to see him actively ‘solve’ a case, too.

I consider this a W for feminism. For the time it was written, i can look past the condescending remarks on the whit of womankind and all the “hysterics” and say that this contains a well-developed female character. I’m still waiting for the day sir Arthur Conan Doyle passes the Bechdel test but until that day comes this story gets 5 stars.
