Great companion interaction, great villain, great flow.

On the bright side, the Sixth Doctor and Perri feel fairly true to their TV counterparts. And the story is mostly fun in its own right. But it’s also kind of bland. Using the Rani makes for a nice change of pace, but the story doesn’t really do anything with her, her plan, or the rest of the supporting cast. And so, it ends up feeling rather generic. Not terrible by any stretch of the imagination, but nothing to write home about either.

Meh. I have nothing to say about this one. Probably isn't the writer's fault; Six just does nothing for me.

A pretty disappointing romp with the sixth Doctor.
Uninteresting story, poor excuse for action, poor character interaction.
Almost had to force myself to continue with this one.

I've read this story for a second time now and I still love it. It is written by one of my favorite authors. The first time I read it, it was actually my introduction to the Sixth Doctor. Peri and the Sixth Doctor are one of my favorite TARDIS teams, so that also contributes to my love of this story. I can actually imagine Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant speaking the dialogue when reading. Also, I loved having the Rani as the villain, as she is brilliant but underused.

That was fantastic, actually.

To be honest I thought this story was quite predictable. Yes the villain was a surprise but the hints in the first pages weren't too subtle and so I could very fast figure out how it was going to end.

It definitely wasn't bad.
I just wasn't really intrigued either and giving it 3 stars just simply felt too high still.

Peri is one of my least favorite character and I was agreeably surprised to like her here; she's the narrator and it works.

SpoilerI read this after the death of Kare O'Mara so it was nice to have The Rani in a really interesting short. It's about her exploiting a race than can change their appearances upon their marriage, a change that they can control unlike the regeneration of the Time Lords so The Rani really wants to learn their secrets.

It isn't a complicated story, but I liked the dynamics of The Doctor and Peri.
