I enjoyed the book overall. Many of the topics involving racism and fetishization are still relevant today. Even though I didn’t always agree with the protagonists ethics, I did find myself resonating with is experiences as a Black Canadian and I got a lot of good laughs out of it too.

A superb satire on sex and race. Highly recommend.

One glaring error, however, which raised this Canadian's ire, from the chapter "Miz Mystic Flying back from Tibet":
The urban mafia of crazies instinctively turns to 3670 rue St-Denis, off the Carré St. Louis, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, America, Earth.

Most Canadians and indigenous people will spot it.
Most others will not.

153 pages of beautiful, muscular, concise, to-the-point prose that is both easy to read and remarkably substantial. It's incredibly funny, too, and in various modes ranging from the absurd and situational to the viciously political and satirical. Really clever and incisive stuff.

Lecture rapide qui m’a donné envie de lire les autres œuvres de Dany Laferrière. Je n’ai pas été déçue, même si ce livre m’intriguait depuis plusieurs années déjà.
