Absolutely hated the characters, however, I think that's what made me want to finish the book. To see a satisfying end result and to see them get what they deserve. There was a fair bit of detecting on the murder so that was good to see but the ending was a flop, I was hoping for a more dramatic and satisfying end.

Great Read

Actual Rating: 4.15

This was an enjoyable read. This is the seventh book of the Hamish Macbeth series. In this book, Hamish investigates the death of a prankster, Andrew Trent. His old flame, Priscilla helps him out with the investigation, and the killer is found. This series keeps getting better. I thought the plot was fast-paced, and more interesting than the previous one. I hope that the series continues to build on each storyline and make them more engaging. I thought the idea of having a cozy mystery with a male character was also something different for me. I thought Hamish was a great character. He is mysterious, but I am enjoying his character more in this book. I think his character makes the story fun and exciting. He is described as bumbling, and lazy. However, as I kept reading, I thought he was observant and skilled at his job. I thought this was a great addition to my first cozy mystery with a male main character. The ending was great. I am looking forward to seeing how the series goes. I am excited to read book 8. Death of a Glutton, here I come. Overall, a great read.

In this episode, Hamish solves the murder of a most horrible man, who nobody is sorry to see dead, as the "Pranks" this man played were just mean spirited power trips by a wealthy and horrible man. Hamish gets to blackmail Blair to get some much needed central heating for the police station.

This one had no likable characters and we did t even get to see Hamish much. If you were reading in order, this could be easily skipped.

I just love Hamish Macbeth. He's so sweet and innocent with no ambitions and a terrible love love. I'm in the process of reading all of the books in the series.

I am discovering that I don't like the MacBeth books where a large part of the story is told by another character as much since they are usually really unpleasant. Melissa is no exception. But otherwise a lovely light-hearted read.

I enjoy these quick little cozies. There is something about Hamish that I relate to. I like the ghost in this one, but I did not particularly like Melissa's character.
