Very different from Alison Arngrims Autobiography, but still captivating in it's own way. I rented it at the library three times before I bought it!

I really enjoyed this book. My family grew up watching Little House and my sister was even named after Carrie Ingalls! My mom read this book too (it was for our family book club this month) and she found it to be too whiney. I agree but I think that all celebrity autobiographies are whiney. They always think they have the worst life, the most drama, blah blah blah, but that's also why I love them! I liked that Melissa was really honest. She let us know which celebrities she had one-night stands with, that Mary was the biotch on the show and not Nellie, her drug and alcohol abuse, mistakes she made in relationships, etc. I would recommend this book to anyone who was a fan of Laura Ingalls!

Admission of the day: I'm a huge Little House on the Prairie fan. I've read all the books and seen every episode of the t.v. show. I'm a child of the 70's and 80's and my family grew up watching the show. I have untold wonderful memories of me and my sister (who has since past away) hanging out watching Little House.

So when I was in the library the other day and saw this book I had to pick it up. I wasn't expecting much but I ended up really enjoying it.

It's the story of her life, most of it spent as Hollywood royalty. When your grandfather and father are both good friends with the greats it makes for a good story. Things like having Uncle Dean (Martin) or Uncle Frank (Sinatra) or even Uncle Miltie (Milton Berle) over for Sunday dinner means you're going to have an interesting memoir.

I wished she would have spent more time on the Little House on the Prairie years and less time on Rob Lowe but that's a minor critique.

I'm not really a biography reader but I enjoyed this one.

I picked up Prairie Tale because I enjoyed Alison Arngrim's Confessions of a Prairie Bitch and was curious to hear about the Little House on the Prairie experience from another source.

Along with the stories from the set of Little House on the Prairie, Melissa writes about growing up in Hollywood and her life after Little House on the Prairie finished filming. Although she struggled with a troubled marriage and alcoholism, Melissa managed to find herself and a sense of peace through her family and children.

Prairie Tale is fun and easy read for fans of Little House on the Prairie and people who enjoy celebrity biographies.

I loved this book. I grew up with "Little House On the Prairie" and am a huge fan of Melissa Gilbert's. I loved reading about her time growing up with the show & her close bond with Michael Landon. Some other reviewers have stated about her name dropping. I don't think she did that. How could you have a Hollywood memoir without a ton of famous people being mentioned throughout? I found her stories very interesting. The only thing I would have liked to read about was what some of the other Little House characters were up to now.

You'll learn more about the Screen Actor's Guild election process than you ever needed to know, but pretty entertaining otherwise.
