Darby Piper and Tate Porter have a new case. Tate’s old high school girlfriend, Cecily Madd is in town with her husband. They have rented out the most expensive lodge in the area for a big New Year’s Eve party. Cecily tells them that her husband, Dr. Garret Madd has been getting threatening notes and she wants them to uncover who is behind the threats. Dr. Madd does not want to involve the police. Cecily wants Darby and Tate to pose as a couple (awkward). The night after the lavish party, Darby is in the lodge’s gym when she notices someone lying in the snow. She finds Dr. Madd dead with an arrow in his back. Darby and Tate will need to work quickly if they want to identify the killer behind this chilling crime before all their suspects fly the coop. Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower is the second A Piper & Porter Mystery. It can be read as a standalone for those new to the series. I found the story easy to read thanks to Amanda Flower’s friendly writing style. I like that we get to know more about Tate Porter. The whodunit had plenty of suspects since the victim was not well liked. There is a red herring or two to distract readers. There are clues to help readers solve the crime. I enjoyed the action which kept things lively. This was a fun mystery to solve. I thought the method of murder was unique. There is a wrap up of the crime at the end, but I was left with one lingering question. I believe this case will leave the agency in the red thanks to Darby’s purchases at the ski shop (she was not prepared for cold weather). I just loved Tiny, the Saint Bernard that belonged to the manager of the lodge. He is a sweet and clever dog. I liked the humor at the end. I wish there had been more of it in the story. Get cozy in your favorite chair with a comfy blanket to enjoy Frozen Detective. Frozen Detective is a wintry whodunit with ominous notes, an astonishing announcement, a purple parka, a dead doc, a sweet St. Bernard, a defensive detective, and a bracing blizzard.

A good mystery. Tate and Darby find themselves at a ski resort when an old friend of Tate's asks them to find who is sending her husband threatening notes. Suspects abound and before they can form a plan, one of the guests ends up dead. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries and the Hallmark mystery movies.

FROZEN DETECTIVE is the second book in the Piper and Porter Mystery series by Amanda Flowers. While I haven’t read the first book, this was easily read as a standalone and it didn’t take long to become immersed in the characters’ lives. While the protagonist, Darby Piper, is a licensed private investigator, the book still follows the cozy mystery patterns of a quaint setting, intriguing characters, and a clean read. Set at a luxurious private ski villa, Darby and her business partner, Tate, attend a New Year’s Eve weekend party after being hired by their hostess to look into threats against her husband’s life. With a strong descriptive voice, Ms. Flowers brings the beauty of the location to life. It felt like I was right there feeling the freezing cold and tasting the scrumptious dishes served to guests.

What started out as anonymous threats turn into murder on the ski slope. With the villa limited to invited guests of the hostess, the suspects are somewhat limited, but there are enough people who could have wanted their host dead. As a private investigator, Piper is methodical in her investigation, but there were twists and red herrings that kept me guessing. As a blizzard descends on the mountain, the pressure increases on Piper and Tate to find the killer. This was a fast-moving, well-written plot that kept me glued to the story. I look forward to the next installment given the teaser provided at the end of this book!

I was provided with an advance audio version thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media. The narrator, Laura Faye Smith, was excellent at conveying the nuances of the characters and the storyline. Not once did I not know which character was speaking thanks to her voice range. It added another layer of enjoyment to the book.

I feel like the plot is too forced, but it’s still a nice detective story featuring Piper and Tate. This time around the incident happens when they are at a ski resort hotel for the New Year.

Frozen Detective is the second mystery in the Piper and Porter Mystery series. In this mystery, private detective, Darby Piper, finds herself wrapped up in a murder case after one of Tate’s old school friends hires the agency to look into some threatening notes her husband has been receiving.

Overall this was another enjoyable Amanda Flower mystery! I love the dynamics between Darby and Tate and find myself reading just to see what might happen between them with the mystery as a happy addition. I love the characters in this series and always love seeing what type of case they are on, whether it be cat rescuing or murder, it is always a fun journey. If you are a cozy mystery fan and want to see what Darby can get up to, this series is for you!

READ IF YOU LIKE:
- Cozy Mysteries
- Multiple Suspects
- Clue/ Knives Out
- YA novels: nonexistent spice and low level suspense

This is the 2nd book in this series, which I did not realize until about a quarter of the way in. I think I would have been more drawn in if I would have read the first book before this one, but it was still enjoyable! It was a nice break from the intense thrillers I’ve been reading recently.

“Frozen Detective“ by Amanda Flower the 2nd instalment in “A Piper and Porter Mystery” series. What a great follow up to book one! I really enjoyed this story, and I can’t wait for the next instalment!

As they dig up buried grudges, Darby’s jealous ex-boyfriend on the police force thinks they’re wasting their time. Will Darby and Tate figure out who the killer is…or will it become another cold case?

I love Tiny the Saint Barnard, he was adorable

I enjoyed the tension between Darby, her ex Austin and Tate Porter. Part of me wonders if Tate liked Darby back in school and that’s the friction between him and Austin.

The mystery is interesting and well plotted, and I loved the characters which are well developed.
I kept guessing and second-guessing myself on whodunnit right to the very end.

I recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.

I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from Hallmark Publishing and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own
