Before I picked this book up I read the reviews here, most were pretty strong. After reading the novel I don't know why so many people gave it 3-4 stars. It was boring. I skimmed through most chapters in the middle of the novel. Georgia wasn't a strong leading character. She seemed a little dim witted. In her previous career she was a police officer for SFPD. Not really smart when it came to investigating the two deaths on set of a reality TV show. It was more like a "chick lit" book with a small mystery thrown in to spice up the story. There were qualities from the cover to the book jacket to the reviews that intrigued me. In the end it was only ok. I don't think I will continue to read them. I am curious on how the author plans to make this a worth while cozy mystery series.

A First Date with Death

The basic premise of the story, a cozy mystery set against the backdrop of a reality television show akin to The Bachelor, has potential. Unfortunately, there is too much focus on the heroine's romantic entanglements and not enough emphasis on the actual mystery.
While the murder is intriguing and it is fun tracking the suspects and the clues, the heroine is not much of a detective, and there is even one scene in which she screams upon seeing a dead body. Really?
As said, most of the book revolves around the staging and filming of the reality show. This would actually be fine if this were a contemporary romance. But it isn't, and as such these sections are tedious and irritating. Moreover, there is no actual chemistry between Georgia and any of the bachelor's including the one she ends up choosing. So, the book falls short in that regard as well.
On a final note, reading this book has clearly demonstrated that I am not missing out on anything by not having seen a single episode of The Bachelor.
The setting for the next book is a survival type show and as this is actually one Reality TV show that I have watched and enjoyed, I might give it a whirl.

This drivel is too stupid to exist. The characters are either spineless airheads or thoroughly disgusting.
There is no humor, no proper pacing, no character development, no dimension to any of the characters. And it is endlessly long; I skipped a good chunk in the middle and still felt like it was dragging on forever..

The bachelor meets murder mystery. Fun, quick read that kept me guessing. If you like reality tv and mysteries this book is for you. No spice, but a solid hea.

This cozy mystery was just okay. I don't think it was the author's intention, but I was more engaged in the reality show part of the setting than the murder investigation. Also, I didn't hate the protagonist so bonus for that, I guess. I think was kept me from enjoying it more was that the writing style was predictable. Not sure if I will read the next since this one was just meh.

Great first book in a series. I was entertained and engaged in the story the whole time. This is the fourth book I have read by Diana Orgain and I absolutely love her writing style, it flows so nicely. The Bachelorette with a murder mystery.

Interesting cozy - the "case" wasn't quite laid out like they usually are in this type of mystery. For most of the book the main character wasn't 100% sure there WAS a case. Fun premise with the reality show.

About 2.5 stars. I don’t know, I didn’t feel much of a connection to any of the characters, and I didn’t think most of them were acting very realistic. First the bungee jumping “accident,” immediately followed by a “suicide” of a man who wanted to talk to Georgia about something private? Her dad should’ve been right there by her side instead of going out on dates. Her BFF, whose name escapes me, should’ve been more worried as well, instead of being interested in Ty, one of the men who was supposed to be there for Georgia.
I did like Scott and Edward’s characters, two of the bachelors competing for Georgia. Georgia was all right - I liked that she was a former cop, and she could take care of herself.

I really wish I could give half stars here on Goodreads, because really I felt like this book merited 3.5 stars. I didn't quite like it enough to give it 4 stars, but I liked it a bit more than my normal "3 star" books.
I thought the main character was a bit whiny at first, but she grew on me and by the end I even sort of liked her. The plot was somewhat original (in that I've seen reality show plots before but not a *dating* reality show). While it wasn't a page-turner for me, it did keep me entertained and I didn't feel like I was "forcing" myself to finish it. All in all, it was an enjoyable read and I'll try at least one more in the series before I really make up my mind on whether or not I want to read the whole series.
