Mickey is a busy single mom facing myriad challenges. Isn’t Mickey so relatable to other busy single moms? One of the myriad challenges facing busy-single-mom Mickey, who, by the way, just so you don’t forget, is a busy single mom, is that she has been looped into some foolish, incoherent whodunit involving myriad issues such as a murdered mobster, an international crime lord, witness protection, sex abuse, human trafficking rings, bitcoins, and more. How many myriad pitfalls and disjointed twists will Mickey encounter? Will she save the day and be able to return to being a busy single mom?
Simply Lies is Patterson sans pizzazz featuring dialogue that makes the script of the movie Gigli read like it was written by a Booker finalist. Simply don't pick it up. Horrible.

Mickey Gibson is a single mom who works from home conducting investigative surveillance on alleged criminals. With two young toddlers, her job could be very challenging. And when she gets set up for a murder by a woman posing to be a co-worker, Mickey's life is turned upside down as she is led on a wild goose chase by the mysterious woman.
I expected so much more from this author. Perhaps my expectations were too high. The description of the book made the novel much more than it actually was. And a glowing review from the marketing gal at Grand Central Publishing got me sold.
Too bad the novel didn't live up to all of the hype. I kept wondering if I was reading the same novel as those readers praising its virtues. I just couldn't connect with the story. There were so many distractions -- Mickey gets framed for a murder by a mysterious woman who then has Mickey chasing leads down a rabbit hole, then add in the drama of her two toddlers, then add in the victim having several aliases, and you have an "everything but the kitchen sink" story.
Needless to say, I didn't enjoy this novel as much as everyone else. And by 33%, I gave up reading any further. Maybe one day I'll attempt a re-read. But for now, it's a one star DNF.
I received a finished copy of the novel from Grand Central Publishing. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.
