"I thought I needed a church and hundreds of guests and music that actually sounded like music, but I was wrong. What I actually needed was a drunken priest, irreverent guests, and a companion who learned to play piano from a goat."

What I love about Quinn's work is that the stories aren't solely about sex. I'm usually reluctant to read romance/erotica books because when I've read them, they usually lack plot and/or character in favour of sex sex sex scenes. And I detest it. I need something genuine. Quinn has a wonderful way with wit and bringing characters to life. They are funny and strong and have character development. And of course the stories focus on romance, but there is also a story behind it. Drama. Action. Tension. Suspense.

Dancing at Midnight is book 2 of a trilogy which follows Arabelle (Belle) and John. I think I enjoyed it a little more than the first one of the three, but it isn't my favourite of Quinn's works in all. And believe me, I've read a fair share of Quinn's works. I like the strong female characters but sometimes the men come across as borish and possessive which is the problem I have had with the last book and this one. Of course, I am trying to apply the relationship to that of the time period it is set in and that alleviate's some of my troubles. But I am also reading it as a modern woman and something about the relationship just doesn't quite sit right with me. I imagine a lot of people wouldn't mind it. Maybe I'm just being picky.

The plot is well thought out as usual and the sex scenes are saucy

I normally love Julia Quinn books but this book was a disappointment. It started out with an interesting premise but somewhere around the middle of the book it lost its way. The last half was tedious and beyond unrealistic. Characters started acting to fit the plot not as any logical human would. The dialogue became ridiculous and comical in places. Not her best book.

While I really do like Bell and Emma, this book just didnt meet my expectations. Unequal relationship dynamics, toxic moments, and too much drama led to this book being an overall miss for me. I will still be finishing this series and hope that Bells friends story is more compelling!

However, I did thoroughly enjoy Alex's elderly aunt and that dynamic. She might have been the saving grace if the book!!

It reminded me greatly of “To sir Phillip with love.” Which just had me thinking that Arabella walked, so Eloise could run.

I was hesitant to read because there are some pretty negative reviews but I loved book one. So I ended up really enjoying this! There were a few things that kept it from going to 5⭐️ The push and pull thing between John and Bella was so frustrating. John pushing her away every 20 seconds was hard to deal with and it disrupted their fun banter and great chemistry. Overall pretty good.

Nossa, top de linha, mt bom, incrível. John é o típico protagonista de romace de época que eu adoro. E para além do romance, o plot secundário também é bom. Não acredito que consegui encontrar outro livro da Julia Quinn que amei.

"You sound like the hero in a gothic novel.”

“I’m not a hero,” he said darkly. “You’d do well to remember that.”

Belle keeps coming to John’s property he keeps telling her to stop. They fall in love almost instantly but John feels unworthy and sends her away.
Even though they said Belle and Dunford didn’t suit I still thought her book would be about him. John’s trauma feels far fetched to me. For him to take responsibility to the extent he did made it hard for me to empathize.
Overall book ⭐️⭐️
