A sad piece of history and a sad story about an orphaned child being basically put into slavery and her maltreatment at the hands of so-called adoptive parents. I won't spoil the ending but be prepared for some trauma at the hands of this book

Only the flashbacks were worth the read, but the ending as really rushed and left on a sad note.

I want to read it again. Slower.
It's true. I feel like I sped through this book, gobbling it up. Now I want to go back & re-read it for the details.
There were some parts in the beginning, when describing Molly, I felt the author was maybe writing outside her comfort zone trying to describe a 'Goth girl.' I'm glad I kept going.
I really love how the story unfolds & how it goes back and forth between 'back then' and modern days. The main characters are likable & deep enough to make you feel invested.
There were a couple of times I felt the story was predictable, but I'm glad for that sometimes too. From beginning to end, I enjoyed this easy-to-read story.

A YOUNG GIRL & A 91-YEAR-OLD, THIS BOOK RESONATES. Told from two perspectives, in two different time periods... I couldn't wait to hear how it ended. I liked the Irish and Native American connections, and the modern technology and F-bombs. With just 10 minutes remaining, I was on pins and needles. If a story could be fulfilling, this one is.

Oh, how I loved this book. The author brilliantly weaves two seemingly different characters' stories together to create a poignant look into a little known part of American history and the foster care system of today. This is the kind of book that leaves the reader with a void. What do I read next, because little will compare to the breadth of feeling this novel evoked.
