Thanks to School Library Journal for a review copy of this book.

A modern retelling of Little Women, More to the Story follows Jameela Mirza and her three sisters, Muslim American girls living in Georgia. Jam has just been picked as feature editor for the school paper at her middle school. She is very excited to start her assignment, but the editor keeps shooting down her story ideas. When Jam’s father is sent overseas for work for 6 months, she becomes more determined to write the best article possible and make him proud.

This book was so incredibly good. Little Women is one of my favourite books in the whole world so I may be a little bit biased because it is an adaptation of it, but even without having read my very well worn copy of Little Women ~20 times I still would have loved this book. More to the Story was wholesome and showed the bond between the four sisters super well, but it also talked about the racism and microaggressions that Jameela and her friends and family faced, which I thought was great. I think I would recommend this story to anyone 10 and up, although someone younger could read it. I loved this book so much I might have to get a copy so I can re read it later.

This was a nice retelling of the book Little Women. It was cute but with some important and interesting themes and subthemes. The characters are facing really modern society issues as muslim girls living in the U.S, in addition to their everyday sisterly problems and all the difficulties that we face by having a loved one suffering from Cancer. The author really did a good job by creating a new modern story from the retelling of this classic. I liked it but the original will always remain my fave.

This was a great read that I enjoyed all the way through. It’s a loose retelling of Little Women set in present day following Jam who is one of four sisters. It was just a really feel good story that was more character than plot driven. I wonder if the author will write more about these siblings because I would love more stories.

Touching Story

This is a touching middle grade story about illness, family, sisterhood, and following your dreams. The characters are great and well written. This story also serves as a window to another culture, and I enjoyed learning.

was worried this American Muslim adaptation of Little Woman would be too over the top or too forced..but it works. Well done. I think I would have liked to see Maryam & Bisma's characters a little more fleshed out but it was very good for a children's book (regardless of whether or not they are familiar with little women)
