Kate Mularkey is just living her lonely life, she used to have friends, but she's not sure what happened. One day she sees the coolest girl move in across the street, she never thinks they will be able to be friends.
Tully Hart has been living with her grandma when her mother shows up and moves her away. Tully's mom is an addict and Tully is ashamed of her life. She meets Kate at the time when she needs a friend the most.
Kate and Tully become best friends. They live together, go to college together, and dream of their future together. Tully is an outgoing presence, she wants to be a famous journalist and she pursues it with a ferocity. Kate goes along with Tully's plan, but she doesn't have the passion for journalism that Tully does. Although their lives take them down differing paths, they manage to keep in touch and live their lives in the best way they know how.
Kristin Hannah has a way of writing that pulls me in and makes me feel like I am a part of the story. I enjoyed the entire ride. The book wasn't perfect, but I loved it.
