This was such a predictable YA dystopia but I actually loved it??? It was so fun to read. The premise was similar to that of Shatter Me (which I hated), but thankfully it had quite a different feel to it. I liked all the characters and the fantasy/sci-fi element was fascinating, though occasionally a bit… dumb? It was a bit all over the place, a bit unrealistic (which seems like a stupid thing to say about a sci-fi/fantasy but hey, even sci-fi/fantasies have to have internal logic). Nevertheless, it was entertaining. This book was light* and gripping and I’m very keen for book 2.

*I say light but actually there is some pretty horrific torture that kinda threw me. But somehow Noni manages to include darker aspects like this without making the whole book overly grim. Somehow it is still an uplifting read.
