Not my usual type of book and a somewhat uncomfortable read (I really felt Evelyn's anxiety, which she experiences through most of the book). But it was very compelling for reasons I can't quite pin down. I found myself flying through chapters every time I sat down to read.

The setting was interesting — I wasn’t familiar with the spiritualism movement in Scotland post WW1, but the plot and characters could have been sharpened. In some ways this reflected the confused nature of the protagonist, but it left an overall unsatisfying feeling that didn’t feel intentional.
