Loved the style of art, that’s why I picked this up. Definitely NOT a YA book. It had many adult themes. I just wished the story had more of an ending. I know it was based off a folktale but if the author was already retelling it might as well flush it out a bit more🤷🏽‍♀️

Amazing art style and an interesting retelling of a folk story. The ending was a bit rushed though

A graphic novel retelling of an ancient Breton folktale.

Definitely a favourite sub-genre of mine: it combines two of my favourite things (1) art and (2) folktales lol how can I not love it?

Why just three stars, then? I wanted more detail! My heart felt for the characters and the story ended before I could come to terms with what had transpired. I often feel this way after reading graphic novels... I just wanted to know more. See more. But I do appreciate the open(ish) ending.

Be warned, it was definitely a darker YA; the story tends to focus on the flaws of the main characters, and how they lose themselves (and each other) to these flaws. Personally, I feel like better communication, and regular therapy to work through emotions, would have benefited everyone and likely prevented the book's worst-case-scenarios. But then we wouldn't have a story, I guess. And, really, folktales are meant to make the readers/listeners reflect. So, in the end, it did its job well.

TW: abuse, murder, death, gore.
