1. The side characters were flat. 2. Autistic people are not problems.
This was okay, I guess. I liked the diversity in it and it was a quick read. Other than that it really fell short for me.

This was such a sweet book. I really enjoyed following along on Spencer’s journey. It did take a little while for me to fully get into it, and I didn’t particularly love the elements that were focused on soccer, but that was my personal preference. It was nice to have a story about coming out that was focused around something else though (eg. The soccer team). I loved Theo, he was a lovely dude character, and I loved how supportive his teammates were!! Justice annoyed me sometimes, but I felt for him massively and thought the ending was super cute!!

  • This was just really sweet and nice with a good message.
  • I like the character and football friends. I love Aiden, he’s hilarious.
  • Justice’s parents suck, I love Spencer’s parents and Theo is adorable.
  • I like the plot and how everything was sorted out and dealt with. Coach is great.
  • It was very nice.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK! Trans and just all around lgbtq representation. Nothing but love up and they l through this book. They way i smiled throughout this book and wished the world could actually be like this. Everyone should read this book. Especially parents of transgender children and even if you want to be an ally.

-Seeing Spencer being worried about how he’ll be treated at the new school if people know and then finally not giving a damn. Especially with him being black was just Magical.
-Justice church going parents are lame. You should love your child. No wonder many kids can’t wait to leave home.
-Transboy with the Christian gay boy love interest. They both play soccer. Come on with it.
-The exchange between Theo (Spencer’s brother) & McIntyre was so beautiful.
-The exchange between Spencer and Theo on Halloween is absolutely heart warming.
-Mom and dad in this were amazing. How the mom went to find support groups is what parents should do. How the mom protected Spencer from grandma’s card!
-Parents don’t always get it right like Spencer’s dad but when he had that moment on the train with that stranger. He understood and changed.
-Give it up for the coach and the kids on the team.
-The rule change for the soccer league.

Super cute story and wonderfully diverse, but the pace was bumpy at best and Justice's family felt more like cartoon villains than real people. Plus more and more these days it's easier for me to see the story from the parents' POV (a side effect of getting old, I guess) so I didn't connect with the kids as I should have, although I did tear up a bit with that football team scene. Heartwarming and heartbreaking, I'm glad I gave this a go
