Avrei usato meglio quel tempo.

It always pains me to write a low rated review especially when I loved the author’s previous books. I am crushed as I write this, but I know I will still read Kiera Cass’s other books in the future. Just maybe not any more in this series.

I was initially very excited about the book because I loved The Selection and thought this sounded very interesting. I got the book from my library and started reading it.

I didn’t love the characters. I didn’t quite connect to the romance. It felt like the spark was missing even with another pair.

The ending actually wasn’t bad. The story had finally grabbed my attention by then, but I’m not sure if it’s enough to read another book in the series if there is more to it. I still will read other books by this author for sure.

I am very sad to say that this was a one star rating, but just because it didn’t work for me doesn’t mean it won’t work for you! The cover and plot line idea really was a beautiful idea!

Ehhhhhh, nothing like The Selection. It wasn't terrible, but nothing happens until 80% into the book. I found the story a bit boring and slow moving. I didn’t feel like characters were developed very well. It felt thrown together and then rushed at the end and the end did not at all match the rest of the book.

Damn the man!!! What an ending. Did not expect any of that to happen. Well no i expected a couple of things. But wow. I really like this book. Is there going to be another? I sure hope so because of that damn ending. I closed the book and said what the hell out loud. Im sure my mom looked at me like huh?
Anyhow right from the start I liked Hollis and I liked how she thought about things and the way she did things and how she was kind to everyone even when she shouldn't have been.
As for the King he truly is something, I don't know if I like him or dislike him. And as for Hollis's best friend I truly dislike her and as people read this book they may see why I dislike her. Almost like she was using her friendship to try and get further in life?? I don't know. Please, please let there be another book to say what happens next for Hollis and family....

Simply dnf.

At this point, who am I even kidding. I probably won't ever start with this series nor will give this book a chance. Given the reviews that don't look very good (at all) and I myself will probably cringe at the plot, so I decided not to waste my time on a book that I'll dislike and later on will regret my time that I spend on reading it.

Saying that I'll not be reading Kiera's 'The Betrothed' series, does not mean I don't like her books. Besides this, I've read all of her books and 'The Selection' series will always be a guilty pleasure and in a way a comfort series of mine.

I've been meaning to write a post like this for a long time, but I never could find the right words to do so. But after writing this I feel kind of relieved as if this was a huge burden on me.

After finishing this book I just felt like so much was lacking.
When I first started it I thought I had missed a book or something because it just starts and reads as though you’re in the middle of the book.
Didn’t particularly like Hollis’ character. Jameson is a jerk. Didn’t feel like there was enough of a relationship between Silas and Hollis to equate to a wedding. I can also tell something is going to happen between Hollis and Etan (?). Hopefully the second book has some redeeming qualities.

Overall left just feeling meh.

Finally rating: 3/5

This book could have been written so much better. I have no idea who these people are. I might have a short memory but I couldn't connect anything to The Selection. The MC is flat. She isn't very well educated or smart, she isn't very strong. She is pretty. (or so she claims). She spends half the book worrying about becoming Queen,  just to suddenly marry a man that dies in hours? And she just got over it so fast? Her actions make little sense. Her internal monologue is almost nonexistent.

I absolutely refuse to believe that the same author that wrote The Selection series wrote....this! For starters, there is not a single character that is not utterly obnoxious, including the FMC who is the worst of them all. She actually says something along the lines of, "I'm not talented, or smart, but I'm pretty" Really?! "Obnoxious" is also the ONLY personality trait of all the characters. They all fell flat and were one-dimensional. Second, the chemistry between Hollis and Jameson or Hollis and Sylis is less than non-existent. It was hard to enjoy a good love triangle when there's no love to be had. It all just felt so forced and unbelievable.  Needless to say, I will not be reading the sequel as I value my time more than that.

I like Kiera Cass as an author, but I was hoping for something similar in tone to her Selection series, and this was not that.  The ending was super dark and sad (as I suppose I should have expected considering the sequel is called "The Betrayed"), and it frustrates me when the first half of a book is all about a girl trying to win her man, only for her to swap to a completely different man in the second half of the book (or the second book - looking at you, SJM) without a lot of warning, and in a way that feels untrue to both the female main character and the male love interest.  From my understanding, the sequel has yet another love interest, but I am absolutely going to listen to that audiobook because I think it's an enemies-to-lovers, grumpy x sunshine story, and I would read those for decades without getting bored.
