Rereading TJ and Amal for what must be the third or fourth time and it only gets better. This time, it's all the more beautiful to me because I am reading it from my very own paperback editions.
I started reading the webcomic when it was ongoing in March 2011 and followed it all through university and right up until its conclusion when I was on a very hardcore assignment a couple of hundred miles from home for my grown-up professional job. The journey I've taken with TJ and Amal has been incredible and certainly more than epic in my eyes, for all that it's wonderfully understated and small in its way. I can think of few narratives which mean more to me.

The art is SO good but I just don’t really care about the characters and I’m not drawn into the storyline yet.
The 3 stars is purely for the art alone.

An interesting, understated graphic novel about two unlikely travel companions. The dialogue is realistic and the narrative is low-key - a perfect introduction to two characters who don't really know anything about each other. We learn a great deal more about Amal than we do TJ, leaving lots of content for future installments as the boys make their way to Provincetown. Finally it's nice just to have a different kind of gay narrative, particularly TJ who is unlike any other character I've come across recently.
