I've had really good experiences with Entangled Publishing in recent months and I couldn't wait to dive into this one. I love stories where the heroine or hero is someone close to someone in the other's life. In that moment of passion they start a relationship that will potentially get sticky soon enough.

Unfortunately for me, this one was a bit of a dud. I think all readers have a moment occur in a book where they physically go "NO! NO! No!" and consider throwing the book across the room. I had this experience with this one. While I sort of enjoyed it until that point, the moment it happened I had to take to Facebook to vent.

Here's what happened:

SpoilerThe heroine and hero went to the hero's family dinner. The family jumped all over him and he dumped her outside the place, leaving her no way home. THEN her best friend (his sister) threw out this gem "Oh please. You knew my brother had issues when you decided to date him. So you had a fight--so what? Everyone fights, Roxanne. It doesn't have to be the end of the relationship unless you want it to be, so stop playing the martyr."

WTF?!!!

The heroine's best friend just told the heroine she was being ridiculous when the hero dumped her at his family dinner with no way home?! What?!

Okay I get that Roxanne has her own personal issues. I get she should fight for the hero because she's in love with him, but seriously?! I think I would have punched the sister if it had been me. Where was the support for Roxanne? Where was the 'THAT BASTARD!' comment? Where was the understanding from the best friend?

At that exact moment, I was pretty much done with the book. In my mind, the hero needed to do some serious grovelling. The heroine could at most make it clear she wanted to be with him. That was it. The ball was in his court but according to the sister it was all Roxanne's fault.

Seriously I think the sister was a heroine in Bk 1 and I actually wanted to reach in and remove her happy ending as punishment. I wanted her to suffer my reader wrath the moment she had no compassion for her best friend when her friend actually deserved a little support.

The story in general was fine. I had no issues over the hero and heroine in general but I couldn't get past the level of ridiculousness when it came to the conflict. I almost didn't finish it simply because of that. Although in relation to the conflict, I did have to wonder if I wanted them together at the end. I had doubts they could make it work after the conflict and it be realistic. The sister would not have been invited to the wedding, at the very least. Well fine, she can sit at the kid's table.
