Very unlikeable characters that are horrible people, but the writing makes it seem like the author thinks there’s only one character that truly does anything wrong. I admit the last third is exciting, but I think the author is a kind of one-trick pony when it comes to shocking the reader. It makes me want to reread Birnam Wood because they have something in common when it comes to theme or message and I know Birnam Wood does it much better

All in all didnt love it. My main flaw with the story was that at the end, the answer was just kind of given instead of being figured out or deduced. Here are my other notes:
-The start of this book does not play well in the current 2019 Me Too climate or the current political/Trump climate
-Every man in this story comments on Kate’s appearance and how “she should really eat more” and how “they remember when her figure used to be more appealing to the male eye”
-more people died than I was expecting

I saw the movie first and then found out it was based on a book. The book was even better than the movie (they usually are). Good read.

This was in a stack of books that my mom gave me and I'm glad she did. The story builds quite well into a back and forth cat and mouse chase that was near impossible to set down for the last 100+ pages.
My only problems with the book was it was a little slow to build despite the immediacy of the major dramatic plot point. There were some spelling/grammar issues throughout my edition that kept catching my eye. Also throughout Baldacci's language, metaphors, and wording can be bordering on majorly histrionic and rather than being descriptive enough to pull you into the world it pushes you out as you try to figure out what the hell he's trying to say.
However, altogether the story in and of itself is a captivating one and it's certainly worth reading.
