Finishing the final book of a series that you've grown up with and loved all your life is nothing short of emotional. It's like saying goodbye to an old friend. Angie's writing always teleport me to her vivid magykal world. Her characters, good, bad, and excruciatingly annoying, will always have a place in my heart. I'm trying to get myself to her latest book in the Toddhunter series, but I just don't want the magyk to end!

The Septimus Heap series has always felt a little odd to me. They aren't conventional fantasy stories. While there is magic (or Magyk), ghosts, dragons, and all kinds of fantasy creatures, the structure of the series has always been a bit odd.

There are typically antagonists or villains in the books, but they aren't the focus in the same way that they usually are in other books. This stays true even in Fyre. There are villains that need to be thwarted here, the two wizards that were sealed in the two faced ring, but they don't steal the show. To top it off they are also dealt with fairly quickly by the gang. It's not that they're not a threat or treated as such, they're just not the focus.

The focus has always been on our cast of characters and the world at large. Learning the mysteries of the world, what has happened in the past, or simply seeing our characters grow up and take on greater or lesser roles depending on the character. It is all interwoven in such an interesting way. The Septimus Heap books take you on adventures, but they never quite feel like an epic battle of good vs evil in the same way as other fantasy series.

That may sound like a complaint, but it's really not. The main strength of the Septimus Heap series is the world the people living in it. The cast of characters are enjoyable and feel real. The world is also intriguing as well there are so many mysteries that even our cast doesn't know about and its fun both learning things with them, but being told about what they do know about the past as well. It's just an interesting world and we're still left with many many questions about it by the end of Fyre.

Fyre is a fitting conclusion to the series. We see our characters all enter into their roles for the future of the castle. The source of the evil that has pervaded the whole series is finally taken care of for good and it all feels pretty satisfying. It may be a different kind of series, but it was one that I enjoyed very much overall.

It is with a heavy heart that I must report that I have come to the end of the Septimus Heap Saga. It is truly sad to be at the end but at the same time it is sad that it took me so long to get there. It has been a long journey that I started more than 12 years ago. I really have enjoyed this series immensely. There have been twists, there have been turns and a pet cat which transformed into a duck! There was never a dull moment in the whole Saga and Fyre was a great ending to it. there were a lot of changes for the main characters in this tale. I found out that one or two characters I thought I hated I quite liked and one character I thought I liked wasn’t very likeable at all in the end. Fyre is a very good story but the saga as a whole is Fantastik!
