“The unendurable is the beginning of the curve of joy," Barnes writes, but, sadly, the sentiment doesn't hold true for this catastrophic experience of a novel. This book may be important, but it is certainly unendurable. I can't recommend this to anyone other than perhaps modernist scholars.
