Ugh I loved this series so much. Cooper and Oliver are couple goals and I love their little band of misfits. I could read 100 more books about them

I did it!! I completed this series on speedread the second last day of the year. This one was clearly better not because I got my sappy happy ending of my chaos human Cooper and my puppy Park. That Eli will get his own series is like a cerry on a cake, I loved Eli and can't wait to read his series.

Meh. The ending to this series left a little to be desired, honestly. I was hoping we'd get a nice epilogue of everybody settled and happy and instead we're with Cooper and Oliver at their wedding. It was nice, and sweet, but not quite what I wanted from the ending. I also really wanted to see these two on an actual date with no murder or bodies or blood or threats, but that didn't happen either.
Cooper got some character development, but really not a lot. I wanted Coop and Oliver to feel grown and settled by the end of this, and while Oliver certainly felt content, Cooper felt like he still wanted something. Maybe I'm reading it wrong. Who knows. The whole 'moon' mystery felt unfixed, a plot dangle that was never wrapped up.
Overall, this book didn't really feel like an ending, and I'm sort of feeling adrift without much closure. Disappointing, but the rest of the series was absolutely worth the read. Maybe I'll reread this one day and feel differently.

I'm a bit conflicted about this one because how can this be the end when it feels like a beginning? Adhara does remain within this world and set of characters with her next series, Monster Hunt, but I've seen no indication of more Cooper x Oliver-focused novels. If she decides to change that, you won't see me complain!
Anyway, I think I've expressed enough in previous reviews how much I truly adore Cooper and Oliver and their relationship, so I won't repeat it again for this one. However, in this installment, we get more insight into Cooper's skewed perception of himself, and I'm a bit conflicted about it. Not because I didn't enjoy the peek into Cooper's past but because I feel like it should've been mentioned earlier. It feels rather odd that never once did we hear Cooper think to himself of Niel when it turns outthis particular toxic relationship lasted four years and is at the base of many of Cooper's more self-deprecating thought patterns. When Cooper spoke to Eli about him in this installment, my immediate thought was, "Oh, I guess he's going to show up," because it was too out of the blue, what with being in Cooper's head (albeit through 3rd person POV) for the last four books. Personally, I think it would've been much more satisfying if Niel had been a name--or at least a story--we were familiar with before this installment. Then, when he showed up, it would've felt like a satisfying full circle rather than a smack in the face.
Speaking of the bastard... tell me how, in a series filled with bigots, crazed murderers, and insane scientists, he wins the prize for my most hated character. Good sir, get away from Cooper, you bastard.That man is a manipulative piece of shit who saw a bright young agent better than him and tried everything to make him feel smaller, less than, and not worthy of anyone treating him better (whether Cooper is willing to acknowledge it or not). Cooper! Lovable, sweet, loyal Cooper! Open minded-Cooper! Porcupine Cooper! When I tell you, my blood boiled... how dare this bastard call Cooper cold? How dare he scoff and say that Oliver and Cooper will probably break up in two years? Sir, you know absolutely nothing, and the only one cold and alone is you . Clearly, I am still mad.
His wasn't the only personal story we just randomly heard of. Why was Cooper's musing the first time we've heard what had happened the Oliver's father? Why wasn't that piece of information something we naturally learned of through Cooper and Oliver's conversation over the last two volumes? It felt so odd and out of place--not because Cooper was thinking of it, but because he had apparently learned of it off-page when it could've very naturally and easily been part of a conversation we've previously heard. It just felt awkwardly placed, as if Adhara perhaps wasn't 100% sure of the story before this installment so it couldn't have come up, but also like she needed us to know it now.
Aside from that, while this plot—and its implications for Cooper—was interesting, it also left me confused. What was the motive here? Why had things happened? Even with the villains' monologuing, I don't get it.We were introduced to Dr. Freeman as a passionate scientist with a controlling and manipulative husband (I still don't know why Cooper is so sure of that), and now she's... what, a power-hungry mastermind of evil ploys based on murdering wolves? And how did Ryan exactly plan to profit from Cooper "the Moon" Dayton killing wolves? Like, make it make sense...
The only thing I am fairly certain of is that Cooper is <spoiler>the Moon. A being that changes the course of wolves and packs as we know it today? Who punishes sinners? Who's an in-between? Yeah, it sounds like Cooper, alright. Only instead of a vengeful spirit, you have a justice seeking human Alpha who punishes sinners by bringing them to justice and seeking to fix and balance a broken system. Poor man, lol.
Oh, and Eli. I'm glad we got to see more of Eli before his own series. He's an interesting and complex character.When he showed up, I suddenly had this wild thought, "What if he's going to be the fourth member of the Dayton pack--can't forget Boogie--and when it happened?? I was so happy!
Anyway, I squealed when I saw Pack of Lies is on Kindle Unlimited because it means I get to catch up with the gang one last time before the waiting game begins!

I don't know if I'm happy with the ending or sad with the ending of this series. Honestly, this entire story was everything to me, I just loved it so so much. I didn't expect to like Cooper this much, even more then Oliver. I just think he is so honest and smart and kind and lovely!
And oh, I loved reading about the wolves too. It was so interesting and the way it unfolded little by little, book by book, was perfect imo. In the end all the clues comes together and we have the most important facts but still only the overall idea, which doesn't upset me at all. I want to read a lot more books about this world, so I'm not in a rush for this to end.
Also, I wasn't as excited to read about Eli, but I think the autor does a great work at making him more interesting in this last book.
Anyway, right now I have this bittersweet moment where I'm satisfied and happy with the ending, but I still want more... And I'm sure there's lots of space for that. That's all I want, in fact.
