Thank you to Del Ray Books and Netgalley for the ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
Heather Walter has done it again. No one does magical retellings quite like her. Walter's ability to flip the script and make you root for the villain instead of the princess is priceless. This is sapphic chaos and pining at it's finest! MISRULE is truly everything you could ask for as a sequel and as the end of a duology.
When we dive back into the world of Briar, everything and nothing is the same. Walter has the stunning ability to help Nimara (Alyce) toe the line between good and evil in such a way that you want to hate her, but you can't help but root for her. The introduction of new characters and reintroduction of former characters fleshes out this story, giving it this complex, but easily understandable plot that sucks you in and doesn't spit you out until you finish. The prose flows and continues to build the tension and anticipation as you get further and further. I was so invested I couldn't put it down until I finished. The characters were even more fleshed out, the conflict was well balanced and understandable and the conclusion was perfect (even if I couldn't help but want more). Even after just finishing it, I could read it all over again.
This was haunting, hypnotic and let me still wanting more, long after the satisfying conclusion. If you are a fan of re-tellings, there is nothing better than this duology. You will never look at Sleeping Beauty the same way again.

Ahhhh I loved it and I hated it, what a journey this one was. I love when a book can get an emotional reaction from me - good or bad. It speaks to the really emotive writing of the author which I genuinely appreciate. That being said, this one didn't quite live up to Malice. I still thoroughly enjoyed it, the new world building after such a time skip was really well done. But the Aurora x Alyce ship from book one was soooo much harder in book two.

This was a pretty good conclusion to the duology. It was an emotional bittersweet story, but I do think that if you enjoyed book one, you understand this is sort of the direction the story had to go/end. Would definitely recommend you continue the story following book 1.
