I liked Quinto and Emmet; they were both sweet characters. I was proud of them for their character growth. I felt like the pacing was maybe a bit off with how they eventually decided to be together and how quickly they were able to (seemingly) get over their grief. But the metaphors about music in this book were absolutely top notch. Very beautiful!

I absolutely loved this beautiful queer romance. I don’t usually like books that alternate past and present chapters,  but I loved the flow of the story here.

A beautiful, funny, lovely book. I truly enjoyed how the love story unfolded and how the characters grew over the novel.

Emotionally compelling debut gay romance between a Filipino American pianist and his former high school bff / secret crush turned mega famous movie star.

This works best as a love letter to music and the power of singing together. I thought the romance was a little weak, both because it’s told from a single pov and because the h/h don’t spend much time together in the present timeline. The pacing was a little off. And it’s definitely heavier than the light hearted cover implies.

I thought this was a really solid romance and one of the best audiobooks I've heard, loved the incorporation of actual music. I do hope it gets a stage musical version some day. Appreciated the diversity - AAPI & neurodivergent MCs, Black trans best friend. It was written to be a romcom tho (according to author coda) and I didn't really find myself laughing much. Also the MC could be randomly critical of (unimportant) things that made me dislike him a bit. He was flawed but not really given much character growth for addressing the flaws? And there was enough sad stuff in it (mind the triggers) that it really didn't feel like a romcom. Overall well written and I think more people should check it out.

This book was so good, I love Quito's father so much and the flashbacks to how Emmett and Quito's friendship and relationship developed. This book had so many lovely moments, but there were also some moments I just wanted to skip past, mainly anything with Mark. I love that the audiobook had actual singing. This also would have been great have dual perspective. Definitely a favorite for this year.
