In search of another book by José Saramago I came across this slim book instead. Recounting boyhood memories and adventures in Portugal from an early age to young adolescence. There’s a lot of sketchy memories some may be somewhat fabricated as José himself admits he was a compulsive liar which is an interesting fact to admit to when writing a memoir. However this doesn’t delve too deeply it’s more a recollection of simple and seemingly insignificant moments showing that childhood is a collection of bits and pieces of fact and perception. It also goes to show that small insignificant moments can make the most lasting impressions to a young impressionable boy.
