For a popular science book, this is not particularly accessible (and I read a lot of popular science books).

The author is obviously extremely intelligent, but his cleverness leads him to be scathing of pretty much all professions and people. It's not a very attractive read - he seems very snobby and dislikable.

Language is quite loquacious and wordy, meaning that explanations are never very clear and concise. This is given a stamp of approval by the author in his prologue, as he describes ritually ignoring editors' comments and feedback as if this is worth a badge of pride.

But what do I know?! He's sold millions of books so readers clearly like him. This just didn't do it for me.

I think there's an accessible read buried in here somewhere, but I didn't find it on my first attempt.
