I had to read it for school, and the triggering content made it difficult to finish and process. The complete lack of quotation marks and rarely used paragraph breaks was too tricky to get used to. At least the book led to lively class discussions, so that's something in its favor.

There are a lot of elements of this book that I really liked. I remember liking the writing and just following Niru through his life, friendships, and him exploring his sexuality. This book was extremely heartbreaking, but also I feel like the ending felt a little forced. I know the point is to be frustrated by Meredith's lack of action at then end of the book, but it was also just confusing and didn't really make any sense because she and Niru did have a strong friendship.Graphic: Death, Homophobia, Physical abuse, and Racism
