I'm sure some people will love this book. It was just okay for me. It wasn't bad, it wasn't great, just okay. Whimsical and Ocean at the End of the Lane vibes (except with an actual plot).

So interesting and tense. Didn’t really grip me till the end but still enjoyable from the start. Highly recommended if you like dark mysteries.
I really loved the the main character wasn’t stupid, I’ve read to many books like this where you figure things out and the main character stumbles around for another couple of chapters until they do and it’s always so frustrating. She is smart enough that I was figuring things out at the same time and that is so much more enjoyable.

Thank you NetGalley for the review copy! This was such a joy to read and I can’t wait for everyone to get their hands on this one.
Gallant did not disappoint - it's like combining paranormal horror with a big hug.
What I really loved about this book is the spooky air that is present from page to page. It's not outright horror with jump scares; it's the kind of horror that has you slowly peaking out from behind corners, or looking over your shoulder, or holding your breath when you think you heard something while you're home alone. The suspense builds and THAT'S what keeps you on your toes. Gallant will keep you away from all of your responsibilities because once you start reading it you won't want to stop.
If you enjoyed the Netflix show Bly Manor you'll love this book. If you enjoy horror or suspense, you'll love this book. If you're a reader in general, you'll love this book.

The writing is excellent, V. E. Schwab is an excellent writer. The story was interesting, but I found parts of it a bit predictable.

I enjoyed the mysteriousness and it made me zip through the story in no time because I wanted to know more.
I feel the story could of been more complex and more could have been fleshed out, however it came to a quick close with still lots more I wanted to see and know.
In saying so, it wasn’t an unsatisfying ending per se.
