Sadly, did not finish. The intro and first few chapters were really good, but once it got into the weeds of individual technologies it bogged down for me. Probably better as a podcast...

Wow, what a cool book! I love me some non-fiction every once in a while, especially sciency, theoretical physics non-fiction, but my adoration of Sci-Fi made this book a stellar read. Novella talks about futurism and how our visions and predictions and outcomes have been shaped by science fiction. He also talks about some of the big, recurring tech in science fiction and about how plausible it might be in our real future. It was so interesting and a lot of fun.

Hugely recommend to any Sci-Fi lover who has an itch for some non-fiction.

Interesting survey of near-term scientific advancements and science-fiction ideas, but quite unreflective towards the social inequities that said technologies will affect.

A fascinating read. As a wannabe sci fi writer grappling with worldbuilding, this is an invaluable resource, but it was also a really fun and interesting read that got my mind whirring. Recommended for anyone interested in where we’re headed.

This book was very interesting. I really enjoyed the topics I had particular interests in like AI, Virtual/Augmented Reality, etc. The majority of this book read like a textbook a lot of the time, and I honestly struggled to persevere through at times, but I'm glad I read it overall. It had a lot of intriguing insight and theory. I just think unless you really enjoy hearing very thorough science behind every theory, this might not be for you.

This was entertaining continuation of the skeptics series. Learned some things. And who doesn’t love a good scifi speculation and thinking about the promise of an interesting future.
