was hoping this would have more analysis re: social and environmental implications of human expeditions to the antarctic. there was some. It felt overpowered by the attempt at creative narration. I wasn't interested in the detailed tracing of ships' navigation or the imagined personalities of the men on board. similar to "why fish don't exist" with the interlude structure and in trying to make non fiction read like a novel.
