Dani is naive and totally unprepared for the situations she finds herself in. I think this could have worked if it had been the point of the story - that might have been an interesting exploration of morality - but because this is YA, the narrative is on her side at all times. (Not something I fault the genre for, but because Dani is so far out of her depth, it doesn't work well here). I don't mind characters who make bad decisions, but it's really frustrating to watch a character make a bad decision and then have the narrative try to pass it off as totally reasonable. For much of the book I found myself wishing for a more capable protagonist.

The book was medium paced and it talks about how the rich abuse the poor to stay in power in very simple direct terms that get the job done.
Would highly recommend
Moderate: Sexism
Minor: Alcoholism, Bullying, Death, Gun violence, Misogyny, Panic attacks/disorders, and Police brutality

- no magic, mention of gods in world building
- very interesting take on marriage and gender roles, but still same old real world sexism and gender roles ( very frustrating for me to read but at least it's written in a bad light)
- imma say it it ends a bit in a emotional cliffhanger which drives me crazy, but it just shows that i really got invested into the story
- young love, but does feel suddenly very intense without the reader being able to relate ( still like the dynamic a lot)
- the poor main character always trying to just survive, she never really has a choice for her actions but I think we gonna see more of that in the second book, hopefully especially with her Primera skills in action, I want to see her to use it more to intimidate people and show of her education instead of pretending to be a worried lil housewife

U want similar reads?
2)And they all have a main character that has her life planned for her since the day she was born and is excelling in completing all expectations ( 2 out of 3 MC at least). The strengths that they all show is with their brains, e.g. political strategist, detective work, spy work, logical thinking and/or education.they are all princesses/high political status.
3)all books invest a big part into a first big wlw romance story-line
read second mango if:
-if you want a short but wholesome read thats not very complex but funnej (could suprise you though with the plot)
-loved that the world building setting is around Jewish believes and culture
-the main character is basically a Useless Lesbian(TM).I love to see it, this awkward s*xual frustration (but no strong words / descriptions used, still fine for young people I'd say)
-it's definitely for "a lil older" young audience
-magical world setting but less focus to describe magical rules
- reads like a lil funnej little dnd one-shot
read of Fire and Stars if:
- read this one if you enjoy young love, teenage emotions/drama , horses ( first book not the second), political schemes and tiny bits of war
- it gets a lil dark but not like psychologically dark dark
- POV switches between the two love birds which i like
-second book makes great magical world building and shows the culture shock you can get when you come into a new culture as a stranger
- climaxes of the plot , really not that satisfying , too little invested into them especially the ending, but it can still be a nice read
- you can handle that the love birds will be separated for a long time for plot/ character development , and some situations definitely feel staged
Graphic: Alcoholism and Domestic abuse
