This story had me in tears - so sad but beautiful and inspiring. I think it is an essential read for Americans because this story echoes those of many immigrants and refugees that face intense scrutiny and prejudice daily.

Such a harrowing graphic novel about ISIS’s impact on Iraqis — particularly Iraqi women.

A difficult YA+ graphic novel to read but so important to have in the world. CW: bullying, racism, war

So much darker than I was expecting, but never felt gratuitous. The part with the cop didn't make any sense, and the ending felt a little too upbeat compared to the rest of the story. But Yasmeen was a strong main character, and I appreciated the dimension given to all the other characters as well. The artwork is lovely. A harrowing and stomach-turning, yet still hopeful story. Mind the TW.

TW: terrorism, ISIS, religious persecution (specifically Shia and Yazidism), gun violence, human trafficking, captivity, rape and sexual assault, starvation, knife violence, land mines, PTSD, Islamophobia, suicide attempt
